On November 6, 2001, Britney Spears released her third album titled
Britney. The not so innocent Louisiana native wrote and produced five songs on the album.
This is Britney, as you never heard her before. Britney is by far her most personable album. With the edgy beats of “Overprotected,” “Cinderella,” and “Bombastic Love,” the album is full of high-energy songs. Other songs like these are also found on the album including the smash hit “I’m A Slave 4 U.” “That’s Where You Take Me” is the new type of music called two-step, in which the beat starts off slow, but as the chorus begins the beat starts getting faster. Spears also does a cover of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” which is fantastic. It’s got a hip-hop beat, which is produced by Rodney Jerkins. The only ballad on the album is “Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.” Spears tells us that she’s growing up but hasn’t grown-up. She’s “in between” as she puts it. The vocals of this young lady are amazing. It’s one of the strongest tracks on the album. Also on Britney, Justin Timberlake, Spears’ boyfriend helps her out by singing back ground vocals on “What It’s Like To Be Me,” which is a song that he and Wade Robson (Spears’ choreographer) wrote and produced. This isn’t a ballad as you might have imagined. “What It’s Like To Be Me” is full of energy as Spears expresses on what it’s like to be the superstar she has become. Britney just wants to be Britney; this self-reflective CD shows that the innocent sweet catholic schoolgirl has grown up to be stronger than yesterday. Britney is in stores now. This is an album that I highly recommend for any music fan. |
